Abstract A securing device (2) for attachment to a portable ladder (36) to secure the ladder to a structure (29) so it is safer to climb. It has means for hooking over portion of the structure. In one form the device includes a pair of sliding brackets (20, 22) adapted to slide along the front panel (4) and engage respective side-rails (40) of the ladder, and an adjustable rung hook (14) adapted to grasp a rung (38) of the ladder (36).
