A process for producing a shoe sole which comprises a hybrid material comprising a matrix of polyurethane and foamed particles of thermoplastic polyurethane comprised therein, wherein the matrix is an integral foam, which process comprises: (1) mixing the following components: a) a polyisocyanate with b) a compound having hydrogen atoms which are reactive toward isocyanates, c) expandable particles (c′) of thermoplastic polyurethane which comprise blowing agents in dispersed or dissolved form or expanded particles (c″) of thermoplastic polyurethane and optionally, d) a chain extender and/or a crosslinker, e) a catalyst, f) an additional blowing agent and g) a further additive, and when the expandable particles (c′) are present, reacting the mixture to form the hybrid material, with the reaction being carried out under conditions which lead to expansion of the expandable particles (c′) so that the foamed particles have a closed surface skin, and when the expanded particles (c″) are present, reacting the mixture to form the hybrid material, with the foamed particles having a closed surface skin, and (2) preparing a shoe sole from said hybrid material.
