A thermally insulating package comprises an outer shell 8 formed from a foam insulating material, a plurality of vacuum insulated panels 12 removably received on the walls of the outer shell and a plurality of phase change material (PCM, such as gel-packs) panels 18 arranged within the vacuum insulated panels to define a payload 20 space. The outer shell may be formed from expanded polystyrene. Pockets (28 figure 4) may be provided, in the walls and lid of the outer shell, to hold the vacuum insulated panels (VIPs) which may be received with a push fit with the pockets. Separate protection elements 14 may be provided between respective vacuum insulated panels and PCM panels. The protective element may be a sheet material with a waterproof layer or a reflective coating. The PCM panel may be phase change material sealed within a foil or film pouch, with a flange which is received in slots formed in a side wall of a pocket. |
