PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for specifically and effectively as compared to conventional methods, producing a compound having a phenylpropane structure from natural biomass containing lignin by acting enzymes on the biomass.SOLUTION: Provided is a method for producing a phenylpropane-based compound, the method comprising a step of obtaining a phenylpropane-based compound by acting enzymes derived from microorganisms belonging to the genus Novosphingobium on biomass containing lignin and/or lignin-related substances in the presence of NAD and reducing type glutathione.
