PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decreasing resistance to microbial decomposition of biomass in processing the biomass to produce a useful product such as a fuel.SOLUTION: A first cellulose material or lignocellulose material having decomposition resistance is brought into contact with one or more compounds containing one or more natural nonradioactive metal elements, for example, nonradioactive elements of the group 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or 11, and optionally with one or more kinds of oxidant capable of increasing an oxydation state of at least some elements among the elements, to produce a second cellulose material or lignocellulose material having a lower level of decomposition resistance than the first cellulose material or lignocellulose material. |
