PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display apparatus and a controlling method which switch operation modes from a 3D mode to a 2D mode on the basis of at least one of a viewing position and a viewing posture of a viewer.SOLUTION: A multiview image display apparatus is disclosed. The multiview image display apparatus includes: a display which can switch between a 3D mode and a 2D mode and provides a multiview image in the 3D mode; a detector which detects at least one of a viewing position and a viewing posture of a user; and a controller which, when at least one of the viewing position and the viewing posture of the user meets preset criteria, controls operation modes of the display to switch from the 3D mode to the 2D mode to provide a 2D image.
