<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal complex exhibiting luminescence, and capable of being excited by a lower energy than conventional metal complexes. <P>SOLUTION: The metal complex is a cyclometalated complex represented by formula (1) or (2).
