<p>A method and apparatus for remotely connecting to and controlling IP-enabled private branch exchange IP-PBX 110 in the presence of barriers, such as a firewall 114, without the need to configure the IP-enabled PBX's that are requiring the ability to be remotely accessed. A hardware device 300 automatically initiates a connection request to a remote control server 106. The remote control server 106 authenticates the unique set of encrypted data from the hardware device 300 and establishes a permanent secure tunnel connection 120 on the same connection socket to the uniquely identified hardware device connection request. A remote control server mediates the establishment of dynamic IP links within this secure tunnel to the requested IP-enabled PBX via the hardware device upon request of the Support PCs operated by customer support engineer 118. With programmed IP address or plurality of addresses in the hardware device the Support PC user can access selected IP-enabled PBX's connected on the same network as the hardware device. Firewall traversal for providing remote support and maintenance of a device inside a private local area network (LAN).</p> |
