In order to provided a compact electric vacuum cleaner which can be maintained by washing with water and which uses a dust collection unit with a dust compression function and stable operation, this electric vacuum cleaner is provided with a main body housing a suction-generating electric blower and with a cyclone-type dust collector attachable to the main body, wherein: the cyclone dust collector is provided with centrifugal separators (21, 22) which separate internally captured dust and air; a first dust collection chamber (24) and a second dust collection chamber (25) which communicate with the centrifugal separators and collect the dust separated in said centrifugal separators; and said first dust collection chamber (24) and second dust collection chamber (25) are in communication.
