Class 83(1) A centrifugal pipe-casting machine has a spherical coupling between each end of the mould and the rotary head by which it is carried. The head 8 is driven by a shaft 6 and drives the mould 3 by slots and pins 9. An end plate 10 secured to the mould is engaged by a chuck 11 formed externally as a spherical coupling to move within the head 8, springs 12 taking up axial expansion of the mould. The other head is similar but is not positively driven and is carried by a hollow shaft mounted to turn freely in a bearing and is arranged to receive the end of a stationary pourer. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, describes also such a machine, having its mould 11, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), made in two halves to facilitate the extraction of the casting 14, the halves being held together by hinged rings 12 secured by pins. The bearing of the counter head 17 is cooled and lubricated by oil from a pump 25 and is moved axially to engage the mould by a rack 23 and a pinion rotated by a hand wheel 22 and clamped by a screw and lever 24. The molten metal is poured through a funnel 26 by tilting a hopper 29 by a handle 30. In a modification the hopper is arranged to overbalance and discharge into the funnel when the correct weight of metal has been poured into it. In another modification, Fig. 3 (Cancelled), the head 17 is omitted and the driven head is a cylinder 3 in which the mould 10 is fitted, 4 being a shield. The funnel 19 is moved axially by a rack, pinion and hand wheel 9 and the hopper 11, balanced by a weight 16, moves when correctly charged to close a switch 17, thus lighting a warning lamp or actuating a motor-controlled mechanism to discharge the hopper. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
