Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for encoding an image, and a method and an apparatus for decoding thereof. The method for encoding an image comprises the steps of: generating a first prediction encoding unit for an encoded current encoding unit; generating a second prediction unit by changing a pixel value of each pixel of a first prediction encoding unit by using each pixel of the first prediction encoding unit by using each pixel and at least one surrounding pixel selectively forming the first prediction encoding unit upon whether the current encoding unit includes an area out of a boundary of the current picture; and encoding difference between the current encoding unit and a second prediction encoding unit, thereby improving a prediction efficiency of an image.
