PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antimicrobial composition which has antimicrobial activity against both gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria, is high in safety and does not spoil the flavor.SOLUTION: The antimicrobial composition of the invention comprises: nisin; and a plant-derived component selected from the group consisting of juices, extracts and distillates of one or more kinds of plants from the family Rosaceae, and mixtures of these. Preferably, the plant from the family Rosaceae is a plant that belongs to genus Prunus, more preferably, the plant that belongs to genus Prunus is Prunus mume, and more preferably, the plant-derived component is the juice of the fruit of Prunus mume. The antimicrobial composition of the invention is especially useful as a composition for oral cavity. |
