This structure for eliminating escaping light (70) is used to eliminate escaping light in an optical fiber (140) having a core (160), a cladding (162) having a lower refractive index than the core (160), and a sheathing material (164) having a higher refractive index than the cladding (162). The structure for eliminating escaping light (70) is provided with: a fiber housing part (72) for housing a portion of the optical fiber (140); a sheathing material extension part (175) produced by extending a portion of the sheathing material (164) in the lengthwise direction of the optical fiber (140) within the fiber housing part (72), thereby sheathing a portion of the entire circumference of the cladding (162); and a cladding exposure part (174) in which a section of the entire circumference of the cladding (162) other than the sheathing material extension part (175) is exposed within the fiber housing part (72). Optionally, the sheathing material (164) may be sheathed by a resin (76) having a refractive index equal to or lower than the refractive index of the sheathing material (164). The sheathing material extension part (175) is formed, e.g., at an angle of 180° or less centered on the axis of the optical fiber (140), in a cross section perpendicular to the axis. |
