<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a main subject to be appropriately subjected to gradation correction in a scene in which another subject occupies a larger highlight part than the main subject. <P>SOLUTION: First, a distribution of the number of gradations of an input image is calculated, and it is determined whether an area to be subjected to gradation correction is the whole area of the input image or an area obtained by excluding a highlight partial area from the input image according to the calculated distribution. Then, when gradation correction is performed except the highlight partial area, the input image is divided into plural partial areas, and a distribution of the number of gradations is calculated for each divided partial area. Next, a first value determined based on the distribution calculated from the input image and a second value representing the distribution calculated for each partial area are compared, and gradation correction of the whole image is performed using an image area except a partial area determined to have the second value greater than the first value. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT</p> |
