<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode active material inhibiting the generation of a solid electrolyte interface on a negative electrode to minimize the irreversible capacity. <P>SOLUTION: The negative electrode active material comprises particles 1 composed of a silicon oxide represented by SiO<SB POS="POST">x</SB>(0.3≤x≤1.6), and resin coatings 2 covering the surfaces of the particles.
