A light system for a pedal powered vehicle 1 comprising: one or more battery powered illumination devices 20,22,24,26 each with high intensity, low intensity and off operating states, the illumination devices 20,22,24,26 also comprising a wireless receiver and a controller for switching between the states; a control unit 6 configured to transmit control signals wirelessly 28 to the one or more illumination devices 20,22,24,26 to switch them between their operating states; and a first and second photo detectors 30,32 configured to generate a first and second signal representative of the light incident on the first and second photo detectors 30,32 respectively. Wherein the control unit 6 is configured to receive the first and second signals from the first and second photo detectors 30,32 respectively and send a wireless signal 28 to the one or more illumination devices 20,22,24,26 to change from the high to the low operating state when the difference between the first and second signals from the respective photo detectors exceeds a pre determined threshold. A method is also claimed. |
