Reusable graphical elements with quickly editable features for use in user displays of plant monitoring systems

A display configuration system and method enabling a graphical designer to create reusable template graphical display elements 120, 122 that can be easily modified by a configuration form. This which allows graphical designers with less experience in graphical design programming to modify the templates of the standard/generic graphical library elements associated with the graphical representation of particular plant equipment. The templates are modified by the configuration forms 124, 126. The forms are created by an editor 36 which enables a user to quickly make forms that define predetermined potential modifications to be made to the template graphical element; these modifications can alter the functionally associated with that particular template. The configuration forms can be associated with particular template graphical elements allowing for them to be reusable and easily accessible.
