A fishing chair for use in sea fishing with a pivotably mounted gimbal (2 figure 1) that comprises a socket structure 12 for receiving the butt of a fishing rod. The chair is provided with a releasable restraining device which can be set so as to prevent the gimbal from pivoting in a first direction. The restraining device is released by pivoting the gimbal in an opposite direction to the fist direction. The retaining device may be in the form of an arm 18, 20 that engages the gimbal, this arm may be extendable in length. The restraining device may be in the form of a flexible tether (130 figure 13) with a gimbal engaging portion (134 figure 13) at one end. |
