<p>A display panel (100) is provided. The display panel includes a first substrate (110), a second substrate (120), a liquid crystal layer (130), a plurality of thin film transistors (140), a plurality of metal wires (150), a protection layer (160), a first alignment layer (170), and a plurality of polymeric agglomerates (180) formed by curing UV monomers. The first substrate has at least a display area (A) and a non-display area (B) located outside the display area. The second substrate is disposed opposite to the first substrate. The liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The thin film transistors and the metal wires are disposed on the first substrate, the protection layer overlaying at least a portion of the metal wires. The first alignment layer is disposed on the protection layer with the exception of an exposed first surface (160s) of the protection layer, located in the non-display area (B). The agglomerates (180) are disposed on at least a portion of the first surface (160s); since they are formed without applying an electric field in the non-display area (B) during the curing process, the agglomerates are randomly oriented and induce no preferential tilt of the liquid crystal molecules in the area: as a consequence, transmission is reduced and leakage of light in the non-display area (B) is minimised.</p> |
