The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for limiting inverter power for a vehicle which is configured to control the rotating speed of a motor and the wattage of an inverter by dividing into a first power limiting state, a second power limiting state and a third power limiting state in accordance with the relationship of consumed power value of the inverter, power limiting command value and the second power limiting command value (L) after setting the second power limiting command value (L) which is smaller than the power limiting command value by a certain magnitude when a motor driving unit drives a motor by receiving the power limiting command value from an electronic control unit (ECU) against an inverter motor for a fuel cell vehicle. According to the present invention, the apparatus for limiting the inverter power for a vehicle comprises: an inverter which adjusts the rotation speed of a motor supplying rotational force by changing the frequency; an electronic control unit (ECU) which transmits the power limiting command value to limit electricity consumed in the inverter; and a motor driving unit which sets a second power limiting command value (L) which is smaller than the power limiting command value received from the electronic control unit (ECU) by a certain magnitude and controls the rotation speed of the motor and wattage of the inverter by dividing into a first power limiting state, a second power limiting state and a third power limiting state in accordance with the relationship of consumed power value of the inverter, power limiting command value and the second power limiting command value (L) after setting the second power limiting command value (L) which is smaller than the power limiting command value by a certain magnitude.
