PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching power supply that drives a flash lamp of a dermatologic treatment device to emit a sequence of relatively small light pulses that are aligned with particular locations within the waveform of an AC line source and that not only achieves supply of sufficient light energy in aggregate to therapeutically heat target chromophores in a skin region without causing undesired damage to surrounding tissue, but also does not substantially need to obtain the corresponding electrical energy from a charged capacitor.SOLUTION: The power supply compensates for performance degradation of a flash lamp 112 during its usable life, by modifying its operation based on predetermined value that is indicative of flash lamp aging/efficiency characteristics. The flash lamp and its associated stored values are incorporated into a replaceable cartridge 116 that facilitates user maintenance of a dermatologic treatment device 100. |
