Method of weighting a pipe and a weighted pipe. According to the method, a weighting mass (6) that can be pumped is used for weighting a pipe (3) which has an outer diameter of at least 350 mm. The method comprises the steps of filling at least two tubes (4a, 4b) having an outer diameter which is smaller than the outer diameter of the pipe and a length which is at least 5 times greater than the outer diameter of the tubes with the weighting mass, and coupling the weighted tubes (4a, 4b) in essentially parallel configuration to the pipe (3) on each side of the pipe in order to weight said pipe. Since the present weighting tubes are of considerable length, no point loads will be exerted on the submerged pipeline. The weighting tubes eliminate the need for conventional concrete weights. |
