The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a solar cell substrate and a solar cell using the same, wherein the method comprises the steps of: preparing a semiconductor substrate; doping a front surface of the semiconductor substrate with n type dopants to form an emitter layer; eliminating a byproduct layer made of a sort of glass formed on the surface of the emitter layer and cleaning the emitter layer; etching the emitter layer to a set depth; forming a passivation film on the upper part of the emitter layer; and forming an upper electrode and a lower electrode. The solar cell according to the present invention maintains a change amount of an electrical characteristic in accordance with surface resistance when a thermal oxidation passivation process is performed, and has higher carrier lifetime and lower recombination speed in the emitter layer with the same surface resistance.
