PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication device and an image forming apparatus which can enhance use convenience of a user at the time of information input.SOLUTION: An operation recognition unit 401 recognizes an input content including information indicated by an operation button corresponding to a press position on a touch panel display surface and press position fluctuation information being a movement direction in a case in which the press position moves without pressing force to the touch panel display surface canceled from the press position being a starting point used for recognition of the information indicated by the operation button. An authentication unit 402 registers in advance a first authentication condition constituted by a character string and press position fluctuation information corresponding to each character constituting the character string, and a second authentication condition constituted by the character string and press position fluctuation information corresponding to partial characters of the respective characters constituting the character string, and determines whether or not authentication information constituted by one or a plurality of input contents recognized by the operation recognition unit 401 satisfies the first or second authentication condition registered in advance.
