The present invention relates to an energy storage system and a method for a wind power generator, capable of fundamentally preventing blackout or voltage dropping or flicker, generated in a micro grid, by supplying a large amount of operating power, necessary for the operation of a wind power generator, through a converter (MSC) and a rechargeable battery when a squirrel-cage inductive wind power generator is used in a small micro grid environment, and stably managing the micro grid by supplying power for wind power generation through a grid side converter (GSC). According to the present invention, the energy storage system includes a wind power generator generating power by wind power; a load consuming the generated power; a grid controlling the power, generated from the wind power generator, to supply the power to the load; a rechargeable battery supplying power for the initial operation of the wind power generator and charging the power generated from the operated wind power generator; a machine side converter (MSC) converting DC power, supplied from the rechargeable battery, into AC power in order to supply the power to the wind power generator; and a grid side converter (GSC) constantly supplying power for the system from the rechargeable battery to the load. |
