A chair seat 1, back-rest 2, and back-rest strut 3 are formed by connected separately inflatable air cushions, the seat being raised by a rigid frame or by an additional air cushion. The strut is secured by straps 12 which can be released to convert the device into a reclining chair with the cushion 1 serving as the head support, or the frame or equivalent support can be removed and the device used as a mattress. The rigid frame is preferably made of tubular metal with detachable or folding parts and can be stowed in a pocket secured to the end of the air cushion assembly.
