PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chuck, which can be used more efficiently with significantly high holding force and wide travel, and which also has a structure as compact as possible.SOLUTION: A chuck comprises a gear train capable of providing purely secure action. To operate a chuck jaw 2, the gear train is disposed within a chuck 1 to transmit a driving torque to the chuck jaw 2 from a driving motor 20 coupled with the gear train via a coupling means for the gear train. The coupling means capable of providing purely secure action, in an automatic operation, using only the driving motor 20, can perform coupling with a connection part for the driving motor 20. The coupling means is a driving shaft 8 which is resiliently mounted, acts securely and has a connection element disposed on a back face 1r of the chuck. The connection element is securely engaged with a connection element 15 for a motor shaft 14 of the driving motor. |
