<p>A water current power generating system 1 comprises a support structure 2 located on a bed 3 of a body of water. A water current turbine device 4 is mounted on the support structure 2, by way of a mounting portion 6. The system includes a measurement unit which determines operating information such as output power, generator speed and torque, rotor speed or blade pitch angle. The unit may also determine operating condition information such as loading measurements, flow speed, wave height and turbulence. The system determines loading information from these measurements, possibly using a model or look-up table, and controls the system so that the load tends to below a threshold value. The controlled parameter may be output power, generator torque or speed, rotor speed or pitch angle.</p> |
