发明名称 Improvements in or relating to the electrolytic treatment of metals
摘要 770,950. Electrolysis. BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO., Ltd. May 14, 1952 [May 21, 1951; July 4, 1951], Nos. 11849/51 and 15903/51. Class 41. A method for the continuous treatment of long, flexible metal articles 5, having current-conducting parts of small cross-section comprises advancing the article 5 through an electrolyte in which are at least partly immersed electrodes connected to the opposite poles of an electric current-supply source, the article passing in a path spaced from the electrodes, the electrolyte comprising a main volume. e.g. in a tank 10, and a volume in a chamber 19, the volumes being in communication with each other by at least two constricted passages 20 through which the article 5 is sequentially advanced from the main volume into the chamber 19, which contains an electrode 23 connected to the supply source, and back into the main volume. The invention is particularly applicable to the anodizing of sliding clasp fasteners wherein fastener elements of aluminium are clamped to the beaded edge of a textile braid having one or more fine wires therein for electric interconnection of the elements. In the apparatus shown the strip 5 before entering the main cell passes between carbon electrodes 14 in a chamber 8 supplied at 16 with electrolyte, which overflows into the main cell at 17. Guides for the strip are provided at 12a, 12b, the latter being constricted. The strip thereafter passes back and forth over pulleys 9a, 9b, 9c, 9d to an exit pulley 9e, passing midway in each stretch through the apertures 20 in the chamber 19 and between electrodes 23; the chamber 19 is supplied at 21 with electrolyte which overflows at 22. Current passes from the lengths of strip outside the chambers 8, 19 to a counter-electrode not shown. The electrodes in chamber 8 are connected to the supply terminal 27 through a resistance 25 to limit surge of current as the strip enters the electrolyte ; the electrodes in chamber 19 are directly connected to the terminal. The electrodes in chamber 8 may be dispensed with, the chamber then serving only for pre-wetting of the strip. Direct or alternating current may be used for anodization. A similar arrangement of parts to those described may be arranged parallel to the first in the same cell for passage of a second strip. In this case when using alternating current, separate counter-electrodes may be dispensed with the two strips being connected as opposite poles. By making the length of strip between successive passages through the supply device sufficiently short the effect of electrical discontinuities in the material is reduced. Provisional Specification 11849/57 describes an apparatus in which some of the pulleys round which the strip passes are located in the chamber, including the electrodes whereby electric contact is established. Specification 599,188 is referred to.
