PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a static driving TN-liquid crystal display element having a wide viewing angle and excellent in contrast.SOLUTION: A TN-liquid crystal display element 100 driven by a static driving method comprises: a liquid crystal cell 10 including a pair of substrates 11, 12, a liquid crystal layer 13, and transparent electrodes 11a, 12a; a pair of polarizers 21, 22; and viewing angle expansion films 31, 32. The liquid crystal layer 13 of the liquid crystal display element 100 is set to have a thickness (cell gap) of 2 μm or more and 3 μm or less, a retardation (&Dgr;nd) value of 0.25 μm or more and 0.5 μm or less, and a pretilt angle &thetas;p of 3° or more and 5° or less, and an On-voltage by static driving is set to be equal to or higher than twice the threshold voltage V10 of the liquid crystal layer 13. |
