PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a method for forming a protection layer on a collector main body which enables the coating with aqueous solvent on a collector main body composed of aluminum foil; a collector for lithium ion secondary batteries which has a protection layer formed by the method for forming a protection layer; and a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: A method for forming a protection layer on a collector main body comprises: the step of preparing a composition for protection layer formation in which the composition for protection layer formation is prepared by mixing a water dispersion of conductive particles made of an oxide coated with an antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) or antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) with an aqueous binder-containing water by adding the aqueous binder-containing water to the water dispersion of the conductive particles while stirring the water dispersion of the conductive particles by a mixing machine at a number of revolutions of 1000 rpm or more; and the step of forming a protection layer in which the protection layer is formed on a surface of the collector main body by coating the collector main body composed of aluminum foil with the composition for protection layer formation, followed by drying.
