PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more quickly detect erroneous assembly of air-fuel ratio sensors at an upstream side and a downstream side of a catalyst, and reverse connection of wiring of the air-fuel ratio sensors. ! SOLUTION: An engine control device includes: upstream state determining means for determining a rich state or a lean state on the basis of output of an air-fuel ratio sensor disposed at an upstream side of a catalyst; downstream state determining means for determining a rich state or a lean state on the basis of output of an air-fuel ratio sensor disposed at a downstream side of the catalyst; upstream lean time clocking means for clocking a time from cut-off of a fuel to the determination of the lean state; and a downstream lean time clocking means for clocking a time from the cut-off of the fuel to the determination of the lean state.
