The present invention refers to a novel alloy based on cobalt with coatings of superlattice for being applied in medical devices and joint orthopedic implants This novel alloy changes mechanical and tribological properties, which reduces the generation of wear particles in total joint prosthesis. The inventive alloy not only presents typical carbides of cobalt-based alloys, but also it is enriched with precipitates of boron and combinations of other biocompatible elements such as titanium, tantalum, niobium, platinum and zirconium with superlattice coatings of chromium nitride and titanium nitride, which change tribological and mechanical properties. The addition of boron into the alloy allows the melting point of the metal to be reduced, also improving the fluidity in the casting. Also allows the hardness of the alloys tom be improved in a manner proportional to the amount of precipitates of the present elements.
|
