Provided is the positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery which includes a compound available of reversible intercalation and deintercalation of lithium, and a coating layer located on at least one part of a surface of the compound, wherein the coating layer includes Li_3PO_4, and the coating layer is a complex coating layer including lithium metal oxide, metal oxide, and/or combination of the same. The lithium metal oxide or the metal oxide includes Zr.
