Provided in embodiments of the present invention are a method and device for cache determination. The method comprises: after a request packet containing a first content prefix name is received by a first node, when a content requested by the request packet is found in a node content cache of the first node, a node betweenness and a hop count tag of a node requiring caching on a return path are added into a first data packet, the first data packet is returned, where the node requiring caching on the return path is a node having the greatest node metrics, when the content requested by the request packet is not found, the first content prefix name is searched for in a PIT of the first node, and different forwarding processes are carried out respectively when the first content prefix name is found and when the first content prefix name is not found. The method and device for caching provided in the embodiments of the present invention increase the cache utilization rate for a node content and the performance of a system.
