848,092. Adjustable chairs. MOORE, E. R. May 2, 1957 [May 3, 1956; Sept. 17, 1956], No. 14046/57. Classes 52(1) and 52(2) The back and seat of a pedestal chair are connected by links 105, 107 adjustably loaded by a spring 144 to alter the relative angularity of the back and to permit tilting, during which action the back is lowered to a greater extent than the seat. The pedestal spindle 93 extends through an apertured plate 90 with a thrust ring 94, between which and the height adjusting nut 97 a ring 95 of cushioning material is provided which, under pressure, binds the nut 97 frictionally to the spindle to prevent inadvertent height alteration on rotation of the spindle and also absorbs shock.
