The invention provides the use of a cyclodextrin compound for the manufacturing of a medicament for the treatment or prevention of bronchial inflammatory diseases, particularly for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

A method for the treatment of COPD (Chronic obstruction pulmonary disease) in a host mammal in need of such treatment, comprising the step of administering a composition consisting essentially of an effective amount of cyclodextrin compound to the mammal, wherein the cyclodextrin compound is selected from the group consisting of b-cyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl-bcyclodextrin, sulfolbutylether-bcyclodextrin, random methylated-bcyclodextrin, dimethyl-bcyclodextrin, trimethyl-bcyclodextrin, hydroxypropyl b-cyclodextrin, hydroxybutyl bcyclodextrin, glucosyl-bcyclodextrin, maltosyl-bcyclodextrin, 2-O-methyl-bcyclodextrin or a combination thereof and their pharmaceutically acceptable salts.
