<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element capable of improving output power and a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: In a light-emitting element 100, a growth substrate 10 has a first side face 10C including a first laser processing surface 10C<SB POS="POST">1</SB>and a first torn surface 10C<SB POS="POST">2</SB>. The first torn surface 10C<SB POS="POST">2</SB>has the crystal lattice plane of a material constituting the growth substrate 10 exposed thereon.
