Disclosed is a cutting apparatus and method for a steel rod, for cutting the steel rod using a cutting wheel. The cutting apparatus for steel rod comprises: the cutting wheel installed to be rotated in an apparatus body to cut the steel rod; a thermal imagery measuring part for collecting imagery data of a red heat area of the cutting wheel in real time, when cutting the steel rod by the cutting wheel; and a controller for calculating a diameter of the cutting wheel from the imagery data collected in the thermal imagery measuring part, and controlling at least one of an operation and a replacing time of the cutting wheel along the diameter of the cutting wheel. Moreover, the cutting method for steel rod comprises: a steel rod fixing step for fixing the steel rod in a steel rod fixation part to correspond to a cutting location of the steel rod; and a steel rod cutting step of cutting the steel rod by rotating the cutting wheel. The steel rod cutting step is adapted to control at least one of the operation and the replacing time of the cutting wheel along the diameter of the cutting wheel calculated in real time from the imagery data in the thermal imagery measuring part for detecting the red heat area of the cutting wheel. |
