<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a reaction force which operates on a manhole cover or a road surface when removing the manhole cover from a manhole frame. <P>SOLUTION: A removal apparatus for a manhole cover includes a first member which has in one end portion a claw which is to be inserted into a pinch hole of the manhole cover, a pair of second members connected rotatably by a first shaft in the vicinity of the claw of the first member, an installation section which can be installed on the manhole cover or a road surface and is spaced apart from the first shaft along the second members, and a drive device of which the one end portion is connected to the first member and the other end portion is connected to the second members, respectively.
