摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical encoder reduced in size, weight, and cost, having fewer parts, improved in assembly workability, etc. <P>SOLUTION: The optical encoder 1 is configured in such a way that a motor shaft 21 passing through a tubular and bottomed base 2 fixed to a face of a motor 20 in an axial direction; a rotor 4 bound to an end part of the motor shaft 21; a disk-like slit plate 5 mounted to the rotor 4; and a substrate 7 to which an optical sensor 6 opposed to the slit plate 5 is mounted, are housed in a space S formed by covering an opening part of the base 2 with a cover 3. Recession grooves passed through in axial directions are formed in a plurality of locations in the outer circumferential surface of the base 2, and an engaging claw 9 is formed in each recession groove. A plurality of engaging pieces 3B to be fitted in the recession grooves of the base 2 are formed in an outer circumferential part of the cover 3. An engaging hole 12 is formed in each engaging piece 3B.
