In a method of bottom pouring the metal flows through a horizontal runner which reduces the turbulence of the flow and allows inclusions to rise to the surface to form a layer, and only the metal below said layer is allowed to flow into the mould. The runners 12 are of varying cross-section to reduce turbulence and a barrier 17 holds back the inclusion layer. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the runner 12 leads from the trumpet to a distributer block 19 from which conventional runners 18 lead to the moulds.</p> |
