[Also in Division H1] In a transductor controlled rectifier arrangement the main current windings are in the form of two concentric cylinders 2 and 3 joined at one end, with an annular gap in the outer cylinder bridged by the parallel connected rectifiers 5 and with the magnetic core in the form of a number of rings 1 between the winding cylinders. The control winding 7 surrounds the rings as shown and fuses 6 may be connected in series with each of the rectifiers 5. With this arrangement the inductance of the windings when the magnetic cores are saturated is very low as there is no magnetic - field outside the outer cylinder. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 there are two sets of parallel connected rectifiers which may form two arms of a bridge. The inner cylinder 11 passes through the magnetic core 1 and connects with a conducting ring 8 which is part of the outer cylinder 15 to which it is connected through the rectifiers and fuses as before. Further conducting rings 8, 13 are respectively connected to another outer cylinder 17 and to the first ring 8. Forced air cooling may be provided 20, and cooling fins 9 are fitted on the inside of the rings 8. The rings 8 and 13 are mechanically connected by pillars placed between the rectifiers (Fig. 6, not shown). A current transformer may be fitted around the inner cylinder 11. |
