The present invention relates to an apparatus to control a torque of a wind power generator and a method thereof which controls a torque in consideration to the changes in air density in accordance to a temperature in order to prevent a decrease in generation efficiency by the changes in the air density. The apparatus to control a torque of a wind power generator includes: an air density calculation unit calculating the air density which changes in accordance to an outdoor temperature; an optimized mode gain calculation unit calculating an optimized mode gain based on the air density calculated from the air density calculation unit; and a torque control unit calculating a speed of a power generator and the optimized mode gain calculated in the optimized mode gain calculation unit to obtain a generator torque control value, and controlling a torque of the generator with the calculated torque control value. Therefore, the apparatus to control a torque controls the torque in consideration to the air density in accordance to the temperature in order to prevent the decrease in the generation efficiency by the changes in the air density. |
