Disclosed are an image forming apparatus and a method of controlling the same. The present invention relates to a sheet feeding apparatus and a sheet feeding method, which feed a sheet stacked in a sheet tray to an image forming engine so as to perform a printing operation in the image forming apparatus. According to the present invention, the image forming apparatus and a method of controlling the same are provided to detect a movement of the sheet through a sheet feed sensor and control a sheet feed based on the detection result, thereby obtaining the same effect as picking up the sheet in such a state that front ends of all sheets are aligned at the same position. Also, the apparatus always constantly maintains a time for the sheet in the sheet tray to be moved to a sheet feed roller, thereby improving a sheet feed state and a sheet feed speed. To this end, according to the present invention, the image forming apparatus comprises; a pickup roller which picks up the sheet stacked in the sheet tray; a conveying roller which conveys the sheet picked up by the pickup roller toward a downstream side of a moving path of the sheet; a sheet feed roller which feeds the sheet conveyed by the conveying roller toward a downstream side of the moving path of the sheet further than the conveying roller conveys; and a single sheet feed sensor which is installed between the conveying roller and the sheet feed roller to detect the movement of the sheet passing between the conveying roller and the sheet feed roller. |
