PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine whether or not the input of coordinates following an instruction device has been performed in a coordinate input system using a capacitance type coordinate detection method.SOLUTION: In a coordinate input system having a coordinate input device and an instruction device, the coordinate input device includes: a reception part 512 for detecting a voltage value of each of the intersection sections of a plurality of electrodes arranged at an electrode part 351; and a determination part 513 for determining whether or not the input of coordinates following the instruction device has been performed on the basis of the detection result. The instruction device includes: a connection switch arranged between a tip part and a grip part; and an instruction control part for controlling the on/off of the connection switch in a switching cycle longer than a detection cycle in the reception part 512 of the coordinate input device. A determination part 513 of the coordinate input device performs the determination on the basis of the fluctuation of the voltage value of each intersection section within a time corresponding to at least the switching cycle.
