摘要 The stability of organic substances which are sensitive to oxygen or oxidation is improved by incorporating into these substances from 0.001 to 5% by weight of at least one compound of the general formula <FORM:1005371/C4-C5/1> wherein X is the ethylene or vinylene group, R is hydrogen, an alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group, an aralkyl group or a carbacyl group, and the benzene radicals may be further substituted by halogen, alkyl groups or the hydroxyl group. The process may be used to stabilize hydrocarbons, e.g. tetralin, petroleum products, e.g. gasoline, lubricating oils, mineral oils and waxes, and essential oils. In Example 5 a mineral turbine lubricant is stabilized by the above process. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 777,546 and 820,476.ALSO:The stability of organic substances which are sensitive to oxygen or oxidation is improved by incorporating into these substances from 0.001 to 5% by weight of at least one compound of the general formula <FORM:1005371/C3/1> wherein X is the ethylene or vinylene group, R is hydrogen, an alkyl group, a hydroxyl alkyl group, an aralkyl group or a carbacyl group, and the benzene radicals may be further substituted by halogen, alkyl groups or the hydroxyl group. The process may be used for stabilizing natural and synthetic addition and condensation polymers, e.g. vinyl and vinylidene polymers and co-polymers, especially those containing C=C bonds and tertiary carbon atoms, e.g. rubbers, polyethylene and polypropylene and polycondensates, e.g. those containing esto and/or amide and/or urethane groupings. In the examples, various compounds of the above general formula are used to stabilize high and low density polyethylene (Example 3), isotactic polypropylene (Example 3) and polyesters formed from caprylic acid, trimethylol propane and sebacic acid in the presence or absence of an esterification catalyst (Example 4). The process may be used for stabilizing aldehydes, esters, ethers, fatty acids and ketones. In the examples various compounds of the above formula are used to stabilize oenanthol (Example 1) and trimethylolpropane-tripelargonate (Examples 5 and 6). Example 6 also describes the production of 11,11,31,31 - tetramethylbutylimino-dibenzyl and bis-(11,11,31,31-tetramethylbutyl) iminodibenzyl by heating "Hyflo" (Trade Mark), diisobutylene, sulphuric acid and iminodibenzyl. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 777,546 and 820,476.
