PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a 3D simplex optical modulator in which a principle optical loss is small and the configuration is simple.SOLUTION: An optical modulator in one embodiment of the present invention is provided with: asymmetric light branching means for branching input light with an intensity ratio 4:1, the asymmetric light branching means outputting branched light having strong light intensity, among the branched beams of light, to a first output port of the asymmetric light branching means and outputting branched light having weak light intensity to a second output port of the asymmetric light branching means; quadrature phase shift keying means connected to the first output port of the asymmetric light branching means; binary phase shift keying means connected to the second output port of the asymmetric light branching means; and orthogonally polarized light coupling means connected to output ports of the quadrature phase shift keying means and binary phase shift keying means. |
