The invention is related to the communications sector, in particular with mixed line rate wavelength division multiplexing communication systems that use different modulation and coding formats. The aim of invention is to achieve practically useable setup and method for simultaneous spectral efficiency increase and reduction of energy consumption in the mixed line rate wavelength division multiplexing communication systems.
