PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of formed coal having excellent cost effectiveness, in which the formed coal, capable of producing high-strength formed coke, can be easily produced.SOLUTION: The production method of formed coal comprises: a mixing step of mixing powdery coal with a powdery caking additive having 35-55°C softening point at the temperature lower than the softening point; and a forming step of forming a mixture containing the coal and the caking additive to obtain the formed coal. At the forming step, the mixture is formed while being heated so that the surface temperature of the formed coal becomes within a range of 60-90°C.
